Records indicate that Northfield Township in Michigan may be named in commemoration of Northfield Township in Massachusetts, where many of the area’s settlers came from. Another source of the town name comes from its location in the northern fields of Michigan. Yet another story claims that the township received its name because of its geographical location in the northern part of Washtenaw County.
